Cleaning Your Keyboard

Desktop Computer:

Over time, the dust that accumulates in a work environment will get inside your keyboard. While this usually does not create a problem for your keyboard, it is a good idea that you clean it out from time to time. Here's how:

1. Disconnect the keyboard from your computer.
2. Turn the keyboard upside down and over a trash can and gently shake the keyboard to remove dirt from between the keys. It is ok to give the keyboard a few slaps on its back side to jar loose any foreign material inside. Also, you can give it a few short blasts of compressed air to help remove debris.
3. Next, moisten a cue tip with alcohol and gently clean between the keys. Or, you can moisten a soft cloth with a gentle cleaning agent to clean between the keys if you like.
4. Reconnect the dry keyboard.

Laptop Computer:

Laptop keyboards are designed to last a very long time and as long as you don't spill liquid in to it, it should give you many years of worry free operation. You can clean the keyboard by using a very mild cleaner applied to a soft cloth or cotton swab. Don't spray the cleaning agent directly on to the keyboard. Gently run the cloth or swab between the keys until clean.
