Keep Your System Safe and Secure
Most new computer users are so involved in the
learning process that they don't take the time to learn how to keep all of
their valuable data safe. If you haven't been informed about the best
security products to download on your system, you can visit our "Best
Free Security Downloads" page for help. Once you have downloaded all of
the necessary security programs that keep your system and its data safe,
your job is not done. In fact, it is an on-going and very important
responsibility in computing. If your security software isn't kept
up-to-date, it actually will not do you any good at all.
I am frequently asked to help people with computer problems that are virus
related. My first question to them is; when was the last time you ran your
virus scanner? I am usually told that they ran it prior to calling me and it
found nothing! My next question is; when was the last time you updated the
software to your virus scanner? This is when I get a blank stare. "Update?
Well, I thought that it did that on its own" is their reply. In all fairness
to them, I look to see if they are right because many virus scanners will
update automatically. Many spyware/malware scanners will not, at least in
the free versions.
In ALL cases, you will need to keep the security software updated with the
current files that catch the latest virus threats. This usually entails
clicking a button titled "Update Now" (or similar). All security software
makes these update tasks very simple. By keeping these all important pieces
of software updated and using them on a regular basis, you will enjoy many
worry free days of computing!
