Downloading Files Over The Internet
Introduction:
Downloading a file refers to the transferring of a document from one computer system to the other. The actual web site that you're downloading from is where you should be very selective. While many sites have good intentions, many other sites do not. In fact, there are sites that would like to steal your banking information and drain you of your money and identity. Pretty scary right? That is why you MUST follow this simple rule at all times when working with your computer over the Internet:
Do not download files from unknown web sites. If you have any questions, consult a professional or what I have found effective is to do a web search for the web address in question. Often, a quick Web Search (using www.google.com) will produce solid evidence of their web activities. While there are many other concerns you'll face while "surfing", we have good "Tutorials" that will help. So let's teach you how to download a file using the Internet. I'll use Internet Explorer 7 in this tip:
Download a File:
1. Once you've selected a safe download site, click the link that
activates the file download.
2. A new "File Download" windows will now appear. Click the "Run" button.
3. The download will begin. A small window will appear showing the progress
of the file transfer.
4. Once the file is downloaded to your computer system, the programs
installation wizard will guide you through some simple questions. At the end
of this short process, you will be shown a "Finish" button.
5. Once you click the "Finish" button, the program that you've downloaded
will start running.
